Youmiyat

This project aims the empowering of Palestinian students to tell their stories on mobile phones. Furthermore the Palestinian education system will be analyzed on basis of these stories.

The projected started by April 2019 and will last for four months, but with a gap in work during Ramadan. The participants will produce short (2-4 min) film stories about their daily lives and issues of interest and concern to them. They will post the stories online and also lead discussions, including with the Ministry of Education, analyzing the impact of the education system on them and on their choice of films. The participants will be given in-depth technical training in filming, recording and editing, with the focus on the production of short film stories, along with basic reporting and interview techniques. In addition to the technical training, there will be introductory workshops on leadership, gender (especially gender in media), nonviolence and human rights, and introduction to storytelling. The participants will also be trained in media ethics and the use of social media.

 

The participants are ten to twelve media students, boys and girls, from different universities: BirZeit, Al-Quds, and the “modern technical college” in Ramallah.
