STAND UP, STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS Project 2014
The Stand Up, Stand Up for Your Rights 2014 Project, which had two phases, was with schools in East Jerusalem, again focussing on where there was the most need, such as in the Old City, the Shu’fat refugee camp and a school for children with disabilities. The projects consisted of training school teachers in a curriculum promoting tolerance and nonviolence among high school students, who then worked directly with classes of students over several months. The students took responsibility to promote awareness of the importance of tolerance and of human rights among their peers, via posters and films and through work with media and through an open “human rights day” in each school at the end of the project. The first phase trained teachers and youth in five schools in East Jerusalem and the second continued with those and added another three, working with the original students as mentors for the new classes and schools.
